28th April: My time is up........

The 2nd most comfortable place to sleep....
next to a wheelbarrow of course!

FIN.......

Well, that's me done...
probably one of the best experiences of my life,
and certainly one of the hardest working!

My efforts, and that of the other All Hands volunteers
merely scratch the surface of the work needed to rebuild Haiti,
but it has been an honour and a privilege
to have been part of this project in the bid
to make better lives for other people around the world!

Hope you enjoyed reading my blog

until the next project...............

27th April: Rubble Rubble...........

A team of us set off to Rubble Site - 'Willy'
(named after the owner of the site!)

almost cleared down to the slab

regrettably the movement of rubble disrupts someone elses home

38 degrees again today -
work for 30mins,
drink water and rest in the shade for 20

Rubble site cleared
back to base on the Tap Tap
Today was my last day at work
so I rode on the back bumper...great fun!
(less bruises too!)

4:45...........BEER O'CLOCK....
Bottle of Prestige anyone??

Usual motley crew in the 'right bar'!

Bram - my drinking buddy!

Meg - one of our favourite base managers...
That's my 4 weeks up Meg, can I go to sleep now?

Almost over.............see last post

26th April: Roof Trusses & School 10 progress...........

Zack (potato), Tim and I are on roof trusses transportation today
(to school 10 project!)

Now Tim, are you sure you've got hold of them?
Tap Taps will go anywhere and carry anything!

Me:  'Zack, I'm not sure what's more dangerous....
between the trusses or on top!?'
Zack: ' Our life expectancy has depleted big time today!
.....so it has!'

Phew....made it one peice
just another 16 trusses and 4 more trips to go.....Joy!

School 10 making Progress.....

Most of the framing secured, ready for our trusses

Dave is king of the world
nice job old son!

Job done....c'mon you two, big cheese for the camera!

and just when you thought it was all going swimmingly...
We have got a spare right!?

Next post......Last day rubbling!

25th April: Life in Leogane........

The busy bus/tap tap station

Time for a little trading while the bus stops....

what do you mean....no heavy loads!?

....We'll take the family car!
(often seen carrying as many as 7!)

The all too familiar sight of what some people call home!

Back on base............

That's never gonna make it.......
Tim and I shoot a few hoops whilst dinners cooking
(Mmmm....more rice & beans)

Remember to check under the seat.....!
Myself and Zack were summoned to help remove
a little pet,
it just wanted somewhere warm to sleep...
in the girls' toilets......cuddly!

More work pics in the next post........

22nd - 24th April.........Easter break in Jacmel

11 of us hired a private tap tap to Jacmel
(South coast of island, approx 2hrs from Leogane)

Tremendous mountain views from road to Jacmel

The Lovely clean beach at Jacmel
L'emite Hotel (where we stayed) just to right of picture
20M from waters edge....Awsome!)

Ra Ra (carnival) arrives on the beach......common place across Haiti

[in Pic:  Alyson, Nick, Sara and Tim]

Another Ra Ra arrives in the bar where we are sat
We all join in and dance with the locals
[Rachel, Marcus & Alyson get in the groove]

Not all work and no play......
Group photo of us sinking a few beers Friday evening!

Message to all from a somewhat skinnier bod!
Happy Easter everyone

Good night from Jacmel
